BATMASS
Project objectives
The BATMASS project aims to establish the first European Circular Battery Valley – an interregional ecosystem dedicated to battery circularity across the entire value chain. The project seeks to develop and scale innovative solutions for the reuse, recycling, and re-manufacturing of materials and black mass, contributing to reduced environmental impact and greater resilience of the European supply chain.
Through four industrial demonstrators and an investment portfolio in technologies with a TRL starting from 6, BATMASS aims to accelerate the industrialisation and commercialisation of GreenTech solutions, fostering interregional technology transfer and integration into European innovation ecosystems.
The role of AFIL
Within BATMASS, AFIL plays a key ecosystem support role, contributing in particular to the mapping of battery value chain stakeholders and the analysis of their needs in order to set up the first EU Circular Battery Valley.
The Cluster is also involved in communication and dissemination activities, promoting the uptake of project results and opportunities at regional and European level. Through these actions, AFIL helps strengthen connections between industry, research, and institutions, facilitating the creation of synergies and interregional collaborations aligned with Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3).

BATMASS offers the Clusters Members the opportunity to join a highly qualified European ecosystem in the battery sector. Through the European Circular Battery Valley, companies have access to interregional networks, collaboration activities, and advanced tools, with the possibility to participate in workshops, networking initiatives, and innovation pathways.
The project also facilitates access to new markets and the development of strategic partnerships along the entire battery value chain, supporting the competitive and sustainable growth of participating companies and generating concrete opportunities for investment and technology transfer.
